SLS camp is offered to Junior ROTC programs in high schools across the country and is designed to educate and instill a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, and citizenship as well as promote community service in the cadets. More than 1,000 retired U.S. Air Force instructors accomplish this through classroom education and hands-on learning experiences.
Cadets attend classes at the Airman Leadership School, participate in physical training sessions with the Special Tactics Training Squadron and receive numerous hands-on learning experiences. Cadets also participate in leadership and team-building exercises to include a leadership reaction course with the STTS, self-aid buddy care, and land/water survival training.
To facilitate friendly competition, cadets will be split into four flights who will compete to earn points based on how quickly and well they complete various exercises. They will also be randomly quizzed on leadership skills gained throughout the course. At the end of the week, cadets will attend a graduation ceremony where they will receive a certificate of completion. The winning flight will be recognized and coined.
