THE TRUTH ABOUT ABORTION
On July 4th, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming that the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were inherent and inalienable. Since the founding of our nation, America has undertaken a constant struggle to defend its people from many tyrannical forces undermining and infringing upon these rights. Throughout history, civil rights movements have fought to protect these rights of those under threat. Patriotic, nationalist movements have worked to protect the culture and values of our country which recognize these rights and give us liberty. Today, these tyrannical forces are still at work, influencing governments, corporations, and ultimately the people - often with the support of those on the left. The right to life, proclaimed as inalienable in the Declaration, must be defended for all people - including the unborn.
Before moral questions can be discussed, terminology and scientific fact must be agreed upon and accepted. When does a human being’s life begin? Now, because of the unambiguity and clarity of the science on this subject, this will not be a question that takes much length to answer. To quote Dianne N. Irving, Ph.D., author of the article “WHEN DO HUMAN BEINGS BEGIN? "SCIENTIFIC" MYTHS AND SCIENTIFIC FACTS,” appearing in the International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy 1999, “...scientifically there is absolutely no question whatsoever that the immediate product of fertilization is a newly existing human being. A human zygote is a human being. It is not a "potential" or a "possible" human being. It's an actual human being, with the potential to grow bigger and develop its capacities.” And this is not just an outlying or fringe opinion in the scientific community. It is a very agreed upon consensus among biologists, who, based on a survey, are the most reliable, objective opinion, with 81% of participants agreeing. 5212 out of 5502 biologists interviewed agreed that life begins at fertilization. A fetus is undeniably a unique human being if you “trust the science.” According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, abortion is “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.”
Now, the facts of what an abortion is and what is being aborted have been clarified. Next, the morality of aborting and ending the life of a human being must be determined. This question is one that is discussed and argued quite a bit, although often without the previously made clarifications. But why? It is scientifically understood that an unborn baby is a human life. While a few very honest leftists admit that they support the murder of unborn children for convenience, most would say that killing an innocent human is wrong if asked. Ironically, the people who champion abortion are usually also people who consider the death penalty a violation of human dignity. Why do unborn children, the embodiment of innocence, lack the human dignity of convicted criminals? This evil act is accepted by much of the culture and people because of the euphemisms of abortion like “pro-choice,” the refusal of science, and the illusion of freedom and liberation created to mask the arguable infanticide occurring within our country.
According to Planned Parenthood, it is a “human right” to have a baby when and only when you want to have one. No one is denying that accidental pregnancies have negative consequences, especially when the mother is very young or when it is due to rape. But, and this undeniable fact outweighs any perceived benefit of allowing abortion, it is murder. It is the taking of an innocent life. And nothing, not even the wishes and conveniences of the mother, are more important than that.
