SHORT HISTORY:
The Chavda dynasty (also known as Chawda, Chavada, Chapa, Chapotkat and Chāpoṭkata), are thought to be of the same stock as the Jethwa and the Walas, and ruled what is now northern Gujarat from 746 to 942. They were originally vassals of the Valabhis, but those rulers lost their influence and eventually their possessions, allowing the Chavda Rajputs to establish themselves at Patan. They originally ruled at Panchasar, but the Raja of Kalyan Katak (?Kannauj) invaded, resulting in the destruction of the capital and the death of the Raja leaving a son, who established the new capital of Anhilwad Patan in 746. Raja Samantsinh, the last Chavda Raja, had no male heir and the throne went to his nephew, Raja Mulraja, who was of the Solanki Dynasty. After his accession in 942, the Chavda Rajputs moved away and first established themselves in Morgarh in the 10th century, and afterwards at Ambasan. Eventually, under Rao Mesaji in the 14th century, they moved to Mansa and made it their capital.
