PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: Varsoda is a Fourth Class state situated on the Sabarmati River in the Sabar Kanatha district of the former Mahi Kantha. The Thakore of Varsoda claims descent from the Rajas of Anhilvada Patan (746/942) and shares an agnatic descent with the Thakores of Mansa. The date of the founding of the state is unrecorded. The Thakores are tributary chiefs, paying the Gaekwad ruler a yearly sum of Rs 1582-14-1 as ghasdana. Thakore Shri JORAVARSINHJI SURAJMALJI, Thakore Shri of Varsoda 1919/- , born 17th April 1914 (#2)(#3 p.358)(#4 p.33), educated at Scott College, Sadra and at Mayo College, Ajmer; he succeeded to the gadi on 18th July 1919 (#3 p.358) under Agency Management while in his minority, he was invested with ruling powers on 13th December 1933 (#3 p.363), married 20th May 1932, A.S. Dhanwant Kunverba, daughter of Thakore Shri Pravinsinhji Pratapsinghji of Bansda.
