Describe what Lean is and why it is important.
Lean is a way to identify and reduce waste in the work place by removing the ways that waste comes to be, and also increases production in the workplace. It is important because with out lean the world would be making parts way slower than it should because there is so much waste.
2. Describe the two different kinds of lean, and what differentiates them.
The two types of Lean are people centric and profit centric. People centric is to have people at the center of your actions and making people more comfortable. Profit centric is to have money and profit at the center of your actions and its just about making the most money no matter the cost.
3. Describe the importance of lean towards automation & Industry 4.0.
Lean is important for automation because lean is how to get everything to be fast and efficient and that is what automation is base off of, how efficient and fast your process is the better the automation will be. If your process isn't lean then you can't at automation.
4. Talk about your experience(s) working (job, school, home, etc.) and how it compares to the examples of lean culture you have just learned about:
Did the work/organization have a Lean mindset/culture?
How did you attempt to make the organization a better place to work - for yourself, others, etc.?
What was the result of your attempts?
Skills is a job that I have worked at, they have a lean mindset of trying to get stuff done efficient and fast. I have done a few C.I. projects to help some people. I have made a badge holder for someone who's holder was falling apart, now they don't have to worry about losing their badge. Before I had helped them they already had a 3D printed holder but it was falling apart and not secure. I've also made a stamp covers for inspection because they have lost some of theirs, now they can work freely without having their stamp dry up on them. Before I helped them they kept losing their stamp caps and their stamps would dry out. Also, while making the stamp covers there were multiple versions that we made so it was just the right fit.
What is the Lean "house", and what does it do?
It is an organization of all of your processes. It allows you to organize your workplace.
2. What is "KAIZEN", and why is it important?
It is a continuous improvement of the workplace and ways to improve the workplace for others. It is an improvement for the workplace and it is change in the positive way.
What are the "3M's" and why are they important?
They are Muda, Mura, and Muri. they are Waste, imbalance, and overloading. They are important because they help you prevent waste imbalance and overloading.
Lean Wastes:
Overproduction: My mom sometimes makes more food than she should for dinner and we have leftovers that don't get eaten.
Waiting: When I have to use the bathroom and there is someone else inside I have to wait tell they get out.
Defects: When I order something from amazon and it comes dented or defected I don't want to use it so I send it back.
Motion: My mom would have room on the counter in-between the sink and stove but she has a microwave in the way so now she has to walk all the way to the other side of the kitchen if she wants the counter.
Transportation: When the laundry machine in all the way down in the garage, and I have to walk all the way down there to clean my clothes.
Inventory: We have a lot of old junk in the garage, so when your looking for something specific you have to tear down everything.
Over-processing: When I have music on while I'm working on something I don't need the music to complete the thing just I want it on.
2-second improvement
Inventory: We noticed that it was hard to get to all of the Christmas decorations in the garage because we had a lot of junk in the way. Firstly bring everyone downstairs and ask what they want to keep and what they don't. Now we could throw away the stuff we don't need or want, and then we could buy racks and totes for all of the stuff. Then make an organized path though the garage using the totes and shelves so you can get to everything easy.
We noticed that it was hard to get our charismas decorations out because we had a lot of stuff that we didn't need it was a waste of inventory. I decided that I would organized the mess of stuff into totes and on racks. Firstly I called my mom and step dad down to the garage and asked them what they would like to keep or get rid of. After we got rid of what they wanted to discard we then took some racks that we had and emptied some totes that we didn't, then we moved everything out of the garage and sorted the racks in way we wanted, and then we organized everything into totes. When we put everything onto the racks or just stacked totes up then labeled the totes and racks what was in them and where they went. Now we have a nice clean garage where you can grab anything you want easily. To make sure that it would continue to be clean and organized I would have a poster on the wall near the racks that says to keep the garage clean and organized by putting things in their correct areas.
