This page has some useful information and links which will help you learn about what support is available for international students.
Our International Compliance Team actively manages City of Glasgow College obligation to the UK Home Office for international students.
The International Compliance Team maintains City of Glasgow College Student Route sponsor status with the UK Home Office while sponsoring students for courses at City of Glasgow College. We provide guidance to students and staff in relation to student visas.
The International team offers a range of free services to international students including:
Visa support letters
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
Visa application guidance
Airport pick- up for Student Route Visa students
We sponsor students to come study for the following Nautical courses:
Student Route Visa (more than 6 months):
Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science (1+1 programme)
Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering (1+1 programme)
HND/SPD in Nautical Science Cadet Programme
HND/SPD in Marine Engineering Cadet Programme
Visitor Visa (max 6 months):
OOW Preparation Course
EOOW/IAMI Preparation Course
Chief Make Post HND Course
Chief Mate Full HND Preparation Course
EK Management Preparation Course
Range of short courses: ECDIS, NAEST, GMDSS, Security Officers, Safety Officers, High Voltage, Simulator Training, and others.

1.Contact home to let them know you arrived in the UK.
Phone or message your family to let them know you have safely arrived to the UK.
2.Check in at your accommodation.
You will be tired after your flight, so it is a good idea to find your accommodation and settle in. If you booked accommodation at Riverside Student Accommodation, then you will probably received a confirmation and details of your booking. If not please get in touch via: accommodation@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk or 01415652884. If you chose private accommodation, you probably made arrangements with letting agency.
3.Report to International Compliance Office at Riverside Campus.

4.Collect your Biometric Residence Permit (if you need to)
Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is a secure identity card that provides proof of your right to study in the UK. It also specifies if you are allowed to work. Our International Compliance Team will provide you a map and explain where to collect your BRP.
5.Buy UK Phone Sim Card
To help you stay in touch with staff and your colleagues while you study in UK, you may purchase a SIM card. SIM cards are sold in most shops, and you can chose an amount to top it up.
6.Complete Online Enrolment
If you haven’t done already, complete online enrolment and check your timetable.Your enrolment link would have been emailed to you few weeks before the course start date. All students must complete an online enrolment before the course starts. Please look for the following email address: do-not-reply@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk. Please also check your junk folder.
7.Register with a doctor
We recommend to register with local general medical practice as soon as you arrive. This is to make sure you can access medical help in case you get unwell. Please follow a guide to see how to do this: here
8.Open a UK bank account
This is not essential but you may find it useful if you need to pay for private accommodation, pay for your phone, receiving and transferring money. Please follow this guide on how to open a bank account: here
9.Register with the police
If you are Student Route Visa student (more than 6 months) than you will require to register with police shortly after you arrive. Our International Compliance Office will arrange police registration for all international students. Look out for email from international@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk. If you missed your appointment please contact International Compliance Office as soon as possible.
10.Attend Induction Session
You should receive an email with Joining Instructions which details of when, where and what time to report on first day. Induction is very important as Course Leader will go over course structure, important dates, and other information that is essential to know for new students.

12.Attend social events and make new friends
If you’re a student at the City of Glasgow College, then you’re automatically a member of the Students’ Association (City SA). At CitySA, our students are at the heart of everything do. We’re dedicated to enhancing the student experience of over 30,000 students at City of Glasgow College.
