It will be apparent from the virtual tour that the workshop environment can be hazardous and therefore it is essential that staff and students maintain a high level of appreciation and awareness towards safe working practices at all times.
Before your course begins you will be taken on a physical tour of the workshop. Here you will be shown how to safely access and operate within the workshop space. Along the tour you will see yellow lines along the floor, these indicate the safe route to travel between different workshop areas.
You will be issued with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, safety boots and overalls. It is your responsibility to make sure your PPE are maintained, fit for purpose, and that you bring your protective equipment to your workshop classes EVERY time. You will not be permitted to enter the Engineering Workshop without appropriate PPE
Lockers and changing facilities are provided to students to store their personal belongings during their time in the Workshop space. Housekeeping is extremely important as clutter creates unsafe working environments. Therefore, bags and jackets etc. must be stored away before entering the workshops.
It is your responsibility to tidy up the workshop spaces at the end of your class to ensure the workspace is tidy and ready for the next class to use. When working in the workshop it is vital that you keep your workstation free from clutter and do not create trip hazards by leaving tools or materials lying around.
