recycing is taking an object that has been discarded and finding a new use for it. turning the old into new is a challenge but fun at the same time. the scientific approach, is key to me along with the question, " what if". art is problem solving at the highest level. indulging in my dreams is like alice in wonderland.

I turned this food container upside down after painting both sides. it makes a nice little table.

Recycling

Using pieces of wood gathered from nature walks, food containers or picked up from construction sites, I am recycling materials creating works of art.

Walking sticks.. brief history of walking sticks...walking sticks functioned as symbols of status, wisdom, authority and cultural identity. they are carried by leaders, elders and warriors. the carving tells stories or represents lineage. they can be simple is design or elaborate objects for ceremonial purposes. not only are they practical but have a spiritual meaning. they are passed down from generation to generation.

shorter sticks gathered in the park transformed into status sticks. all have a painted design, a carved design or both.

block of clay...faces of Africa

it is approximately 12 x 9 x 6 inches and carved on five sides. it has 5 etched stylized portraits. I believe the years created 1994 and 1995.

ceramic vases...voices of Africa

inspired by African studies & African history, these vases depict different types of everyday interacts in the village. they are useable item as well as decorative pieces.
