BIO/ARTIST STATEMENT/HISTORY

robert 'bob' daniels was born in mount vernon,new york. he attended the public school system in this  city was an avid reader in his youth. this early love for books fueled his daydreams. he turned these daydreams into his earliest art. his love of the saturday evening post inspired him to drawing and coloring on the brown paper bags that his mom compiled from grocery shopping.   'these were my early canvases'.bob continued to draw and won prizes at every educational level. his self portrait won first prize in the westchester county high school art contest.

bob is a passionate mixed medium artist who uses all types of surfaces, tools and mediums to express both his feelings and visions...' i set no limits or boundaries on materials, styles or subject matter in my work. the forces of nature guides me on my creative journey. i am a messenger'. daniels work takes on a form of worship.it breathes vivid colors and defines stark contrast using a collection of linear lines and planes to create textures and dimension.this is his exquisite signature style. robert wide use of various matters such as wood, metal, plastics, clay, clothe, and other everyday materials create an accessibility to his work which is remarkably intricate and refined'.

robert uses the colorful stories of a shared caribbean and native-american heritage to weave his stories on canvas.mr. daniels is a graduate of herbert h. lehman college in the bronx, new york. he has a b.a. in studio art meaning he has touched all the disciplines of art. his area of specialization was printmaking and graphic arts. he uses his skills in drawing and design in most of his work.

he has won many prizes and awards not only in westchester county as he has also been acknowledge in orlando (orlando visual art center-2nd in portrait show-2000), hempstead, long island african-american museum show september , 2001,  and written into a new york state proclamation honoring community board 11 artist by senator jose m. serrano on august 20, 2006. This list is long and pays tribute to his dedication to the teaching and the creation of  art. His art has also graced the covers of several periodicals in europe.

robert was a new york city educator for over 30 years. as a classroom teacher in both art and as a 6th grade instructor, he integrated art into the core curriculum. 'i find children learn better when the task is hands on. they like to touch and feel. it gives them a sense of ownership. they like to problem solve and remember the experiences with joy'. he has mentored artist across the world and has also done collaborations with artist from other states and countries.

robert is currently making art in both the bronx, new york and triuggio, italy. his latest works are a mixture of figurative abstracts and black and white graphics. ' bobs' art tears the membrane between dimensions, time and space', quotes cleaster cotton. bob states, ' i want to speak to the human family,to bring my audience closer together. i want my art to be a tie that binds.the new work touches tough subjects that we need to be aligned with as humans. my latest works incorporates both, the techniques of printmaking and drawing to narrate my journey. this work expresses the struggles and the joys. in short,  my art speaks to the contrasting emotions within us'. bob daniels
