Drama 1

This college prep drama course is designed for the beginning student in any ability group interested in developing a foundation in the theater arts. Students become artistically literate by creating, performing, responding to, and connecting to theater in production and performance. The development of aesthetic perception and creative expression, study of historical and cultural context, aesthetic valuing and connecting and applying learned theater arts knowledge toward careers in the arts are fundamental components of all instruction in the theater arts.

The Drama 1 course includes a survey of historical forms of theater, which can include Ancient Greek theater, Comedia dell'arte, English Elizabethan and Spanish Golden age theater, among others.

Drama 2

This course is for the continuing drama student who is interested in further development of their skills in the theater arts. The student will receive further instruction and have the opportunity for further implementation of creating theatrical works. Students will continue study of improvisation, voice and diction, scene study and analysis, and character development.

The Drama 2 course continues the study of theater genres, which can include Restoration, neoclassical, 20th-century, and contemporary theater. Drama 2 may revisit a form of theater studied in Drama 1 as well.

In Drama 2, students are expected to begin developing an area of interest for in-depth study. These areas include acting, directing, dramaturgy, set design, lighting design, costume design, and stage management. Study and development will culminate in practical implementation of these skills in the form of a theater production.
