A muffled bang from outside the window caused Shalina to almost drop her coffee cup. Another bang, and she immediately thought of taking shelter before she remembered where she was. Just then she glanced out the window and saw a vivid green spectacle against the night sky right before another muffled bang.
Fireworks. Of course.
She calmed herself down and went out on the balcony, apprehensive at first but reminding herself it was safe. Overhead, more fireworks exploded in brightly coloured starburst. Then she remembered it was the new year in the local calendar, they were probably celebrating that.
The midwinter night sky made a very good canvas to paint on with light, she had to admit.
And fireworks was a much better use of gunpowder for sure.
