Rewriting Gender: Yde et Olive and Ovidian Myth


The Old French story Yde et Olive, a continuation of Huon de Bordeaux, recounts the miraculous gender change of a female character who disguises herself as a man to escape the threat of incest. It is the first medieval reworking of Ovid's myth of Iphis (Met. IX. 666-797).
