The Beetles is a 3D competitive 2-player shoot'em up, in which you embody two flying beetles who must face a swarm of wasps, to retrive the eggs they have stolen to feed their queen.
This game was created for the master first year project at the CNAM-ENJMIN, a one week project.
Created on Unity at 10 people in 1 week, playable on PC. You can check the itch.io page and download the game here.
Game User Research
UX Designer
The Beetles was only developed in a week, I started with personas and documentation of what players like and dislike about the shoot 'em up genre, searching for information on specialized websites, Reddit, and Steam reviews of various games. I compiled this documentation to present to the team during pre-production.
Then I created a quick user flow focused on the menus. It had the main features, which are few and far between in a JAM game made in less than a week.
Finally, the only playtest came too late, at the end of production. It helped us greatly to iterate with the time we had left, particularly on balancing the game, understanding the signs and feedback, and the feel of shooting and dodging.
