INTRODUCING VR TO KIDS
1. Create and Personalize the VR Headset
2. Imagine a Story
3. Create the VR world (With Cospaces)
workshop concept
My first VR Project intends to introduce kids the next generation of computing: Virtual Reality (VR). Children can now start being part of this technological revolution via developing their own Do-It-Yourself cardboard VR glasses and virtual contents for truly immersive experiences.
virtual reality in three steps
1. Create and Personalize the VR Headset
To build the VR Headset we use the Google CardBoard template (V 1.2) which can be printed in two A4 sheets of paper. Afterwards, corrugated cardboard of 1.7 mm of thickness can be used to assemble the structure of the headset which uses two biconvex lenses to generate the VR view by placing a smartphone inside. Finally, personalize the headset using colored pencils, markers and paintings.
A complete list of the materials needed to build and personalize the Google CardBoard can be found here.
2. Imagine a Story
Kids are encouraged to create their own stories using paper and pencils through a simplistic storytelling methodology. The idea is to imagine stories via defining characters, scenarios, dialogues, conflicts and conclusions of a complete novel story. A template to create a simple storyboard can be found here.
3. Create the VR world using Cospaces
The story created is represented in a virtual 3D world using a free software called CoSpaces. This online platform is used to easily create whatever kids want in 3D and explore it in virtual reality through the android application. Thus, closing a creative VR loop allowing an immersion into the virtual environment just created.
