One of the longest-running traditions in Middlesex Youth Baseball is our annual “Canning Days” fundraiser — and it plays a huge role in helping keep our league running each season.
For newer families: “canning” simply means players and families volunteer at local businesses collecting donations from community members using collection cans/buckets. It’s a fun way for our players to represent the league, connect with the community, and help support the program they are part of.
The money raised through canning helps offset league costs throughout the season including:
⚾ Field maintenance and improvements
⚾ Equipment and baseballs
⚾ Uniforms and announcer equipment
⚾ Opening Day and end-of-season events
⚾ League events, give-aways and activities
⚾ Facility upkeep and future upgrades
Our community has always been incredibly supportive of MYB, and Canning Days are one of the biggest ways we come together to keep youth baseball strong in Middlesex.
✔ Each player is required to complete ONE (1) 30-minute canning shift
✔ Required for all divisions except Babe Ruth
✔ Babe Ruth players and families are still very welcome and encouraged to participate
✔ Families may choose the buy-out option instead
💲 Buy-Out Option: $50 via Venmo @MYBBlueJays

We are incredibly appreciative of these local businesses for allowing us to participate at their locations:
📍 7-Eleven – Route 28, Middlesex
📍 Dunkin Donuts – Route 28, Middlesex (the location closer to Mauger School)
📍 Sal’s Deli – Lincoln Boulevard
📍 Bagel Bazaar – Route 28 strip mall, Middlesex
Please arrive a few minutes early for your scheduled shift.
⚠️ Important:
The FIRST shift at each location is responsible for picking up materials from the fieldhouse.
The LAST shift at each location is responsible for returning materials to the fieldhouse afterward.
The players who do best are usually the ones who are energetic, polite, smiling, and engaged with people walking by. Community members LOVE seeing the kids involved and representing the league.
A few tips:
✔ Wear your jersey or MYB gear
✔ Smile and say hello
✔ Thank every person — whether they donate or not
✔ Stay visible and energetic
✔ Have fun with it
Simple phrases work great:
“Hi! We’re fundraising for Middlesex Youth Baseball!”
“Thank you for supporting youth baseball!”
“Have a great day!”
The more enthusiasm players bring, the more support we usually receive.
One of the BEST ways to help your player succeed is to post on social media before or during your shift!
Many families share photos or videos and invite friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and local supporters to stop by and donate. Others share the Venmo information for friends and family who may not be able to attend in person but still want to support the league.
Suggested post ideas:
⚾ “Come support Middlesex Youth Baseball at Dunkin on Route 28 from 10–10:30 today!”
⚾ “Can’t make it? Donations can be sent to @MYBBlueJays!”
⚾ Share a photo of your player during their shift
⚾ Tag friends and family in the area
Every little bit helps, and community support truly makes a difference for the kids.
We know families are busy, and we truly appreciate everyone taking the time to participate. Events like this are what allow MYB to continue growing and creating memorable experiences for our players year after year.
Thank you for supporting Middlesex Youth Baseball! ⚾💙
