For this assignment, we were tasked with completing a multi-stage collaborative research paper and power-point presentation. Consisting of an initial report on an area outside of the United States of our choosing, such as a city or country, we were then asked to work together with a partner in order to combine our reports. Comparing and contrasting is the name of the game for this part, however my partner and I both chose very similar countries. I chose Seoul, South Korea and he chose Tokyo, Japan. The capitals of some of the most prominent east Asian countries with a long history together. An interesting thing about Japan is that there are other lesser spoken native languages sprinkled throughout the archipelago, which I didn't know until reading my partners part!
This project taught me how to properly research using the databases and other resources in the CCBC library! In my head I had thought libraries were obsolete, and that they wouldn't exist in an online format, but I couldn't have been more wrong. It is probably easier to use the online library because you can search for information much more easily with it. I also learned that collaboration can be difficult without proper communication, as neither party can really be sure what the plan is unless we talk about it. After communicating through email with my partner, we set aside a time together to get on a voice call and talk about our individual portions of the project. After that we communicated while we worked on the powerpoint together, divvying up the work to make things easier. We also shared resources on how we could search for pictures, I didn't realize that you could find images through the application itself!
