Field Training Office (FTO)
The Field Training Office of the Los Santos Police Department is tasked with training new police officers and ensuring they are fully capable of serving our community.
The Los Santos Police Department Field Training Office provides an extensive training program for all new Police Officers to our agency. The FTO Program aims to prepare all Police Officers to be safe and successful within their duties, serve as positive role models for community members, and safeguard the constitutional guarantees of our citizens. This program is tailored to bring Police Officers up to standard efficiently and cleared to patrol!
The Field Training Program consists of a three-phase education format. This format prioritizes competency in law enforcement concepts, department, and community policies and procedures, in-game concepts, and becoming a self-sufficient Police Officer.
Phase #1: Classroom-based learning scenario that will cover many of the core competencies of any officer; report standards, CAD/MDT operations, de-escalation, building clearing, call responses, to much more. The finalization of this phase is after a written examination.
Phase #2: Serves as an observational ride-along where the Probationary Officer's primary objective is to observe the Field Training Officer's actions and reinforce the importance of radio etiquette, emergency motor vehicle operational skills, and equipment operations.
Phase #3: The final phase of the FTO Program serves as an observational period for Field Training Officer to objectively assess a Probationary Officer's ability to conduct their job duties without FTO assistance. The Field Training Officer will only intervene when necessary to ensure department or community policy is not violated, ensure the life and safety of citizens and officers, and when the Probationary Officer requests it. The finalization of this phase is after a written examination is successfully passed.
The Field Training Program is constantly looking for qualified Police Officers to join our team of dedicated Field Training Officers (FTOs). FTOs are tasked with completing all three phases of the training program and ensuring all Probationary Officers meet the high expectations of the department.
