The Solution

What is Music Without Borders?

Music Without Borders is a music education enterprise that gets right to the heart of teaching music to students of any age and skill level.

-We only hire teachers who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music

-All of our teachers have experience performing and teaching

-We have qualified instructors that can teach any musical instrument, vocal instruction, and even composition

-While we primarily offer virtual lessons, we are open to the possibility of in person lessons as well

At Music Without Borders, we strive to be both versatile and flexible. We can teach any musical instrument to any age of student at any skill level. Be it a 5 year old starting on piano for the first time, or a 50 year old who wants to discover that love they once had for the banjo, we are fully prepared to take on any student who is interested in further developing their love and skill of music.

Upon registering for Music Without Borders, we strive to get to know our students. We want to know all about the musical experience, interest, and intention, but we also want to know more. We want to develop connections with each student that we can best pair each student with the teacher best suited to their instrument, their skill level, and their personality type. We wish to see our students grow and flourish in the best way possible, and watch both of their skill and interest level develop.

What kind of instruction do we offer?

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are respectful to the fact that there are still many who are apprehensive about live, physical in person experiences. For that reason we offer sessions and music instruction through an online infrastructure. We are flexible in terms of both timing of the lessons and location. We are here to offer what is best suited to the student. We operate over the Microsoft Teams streaming service, which allows us to confidently provide you with a quality streaming lesson program.

Which areas do we serve?

Currently, we are serving students who live in the Tri Cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody). As our business expands, we are hoping to expand to more areas and hopefully reach students in other areas of the Metro Vancouver Area.

Where to pick up instruments

We are aware that, as you are starting out, you will need an instrument to use. Through a partnership with the Evergreen Cultural Centre, located near Town Centre in Coquitlam, we have a variety of donated, gently used instruments that are ready for your use while you are practicing with us. As long you are are student of ours, the instrument is yours free of charge for you to practice on and use with your teacher during the lessons.

Why are we doing this?

At Music Without Borders, we are very firm believers in the values of a music education. We do not believe that all of our students will go on to become teachers, performers or composers (although it is something we would love to see and highly encourage if they’re interested). Studies have shown that music is beneficial for development, and has proven beneficial for mental, emotional, and even physical health.

As a non-profit organization, we operate under the belief that everyone should have access to music and musical instruction. We believe that music should be accessible for any willing individuals, regardless of current financial state or any other obstacle.
