Music, Resilience, and Life SP2023
Hello! My name is Keonna! I am a freshman majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in cybersecurity. I am also minoring in social innovation, theatre, and finance. I love to listen to all genres of music but my favorite so far is alternative pop. My favorite bands are Gorillaz and Sunset Rollercoaster.
I have been in choirs in elementary and middle school, while also having to sing some songs for showcases in high school. The first time that I was in a play, the music surrounded me and made me feel the character that I was playing. This is partially why I wanted to be an actress in the first place. I love listening to the soundtracks from musicals or from some operas. Now that I am exploring music a bit more, I have been more interested in opera and what it has to offer. I love feeling the my head and chest resonance whenever I am singing, though I have only been doing it for the past five months. Though this is a short amount of time to fall completely in love with singing opera, I have been listening to classical music since I was a baby. There was a specific tune that stuck with me throughout the years that I did not know the name of. I did not realize until later on that my favorite song that I had been humming for the past decade or so was Liebstraum No. 3 by Liszt. Music has allowed me to fully realize my goals by helping me stick to them. Music has been my way of escaping for the past few years since it relieves my stress. If I have a difficult assignment or I generally feel unmotivated, I just listen to a song that closely relates to the way I feel. This allows me to push through the negative emotion and complete my tasks. One aspect that I love about music is that with I can see patterns or shapes from certain songs. I love the fact that whenever I listen to that song again, I can always see the beautiful shapes that my mental images have to offer.
I used this graphic to show my music taste throughout the years. All of these songs are one that I have not heard for a while but I still played on repeat at one point. The songs has a subtle theme, one that I am trying to decipher myself. I believe it is that they all have something to do with love in some capacity, except for Secrets of Wysteria which has a dark backstory. Factoring this in, maybe the common theme is that every song has some point in them where they are not as innocent as they seem, yet Secrets of Wysteria is just more blatant about it. My graphic includes a decent array of genres that I listen to daily. Though they all have some slightly sinister background to them, for the lack of a better term, some of the song son this list are still feel good songs to me. One of which being Let Her Dance by Bobby Fuller Four. This song will make anyone want to dance in some way, even if it is just tapping your feet!
