Special Announcement about keeping our class healthy

With the advent of the spread of the Corona Virus (COVID19), it is always best to stay current with information, situation updates and what you should know to keep you healthy. Take a look at this link for more information. Wash you hands and stay healthy!.

Moving Forward: You know that song by twenty one pilots that says, "my name's blurry face and I care what you think"? Well sometimes being in an online class might feel that way. Keeping our attention and focus may even be more difficult since we have spent half of this class in an actual classroom media lab. Last time that I saw everyone, we were in the middle of musical collaborations between class mates. Now due to the shelter-in-place and the COVID19 virus, we are finishing this class online. Let's start things by finding out how we should proceed? It is hard to engage each other at a distance, especially if we don't interact as a class. So... Help me make the class even better! This course celebrates the diversity of our student population. I will try to make the class welcoming, accessible, and with strong functionality for all. We are all students in some way, and we bring with us a variety of different learning styles. Some of us are new to online learning, some of us speak multiple languages, some of us can read music and others may or may not have access to the technology (Apple computers and Logic Pro X) that we were using previously. Either way, I am committed to paving your way for success by opening my virtual office door so you can let me know if there is an element or resource that you can’t access. This class is always evolving and your participation and suggestions are important to me and to the future of the class. Hopefully, the next round of this class will be back in the class room!, but let's finish strong! I believe that there is a part 2 of this class in development, if some of you want to continue to research and create electronic music inside the classroom in future semesters.

WELCOME!

Greetings From Your Instructor

Hi Everyone, we've already met. As you know, I'm Kevin Martin and I will be your online instructor for the remainder of this exciting online version of the MUS147 Electronic Music and MIDI course. As your teacher, I am committed to your success! I would like to re-introduce you to some of the basic history of electronic music, concepts of synthesis, sampling, and MIDI sequencing as used in a digital audio workstation (DAW). I will be here to answer your questions through Canvas and via email throughout the week. Reach out if you need something.

Assignments will include creating beats, music and other compositions related to electronic music techniques, on the technology that we have access to. Be patient as we try to navigate from our classroom to online.
