SCP - 173 "The Sculpture"
SCP - 173 "The Sculpture"
Object Class : Euclid
SCP-173 is classified as Euclid because it is dangerous, but can be controlled as long as proper containment procedures are followed. The key to keeping SCP-173 safe is direct eye contact—as long as someone is looking at it, it cannot move or attack. However, once it is unsupervised (everyone blinks or turns away), SCP-173 will move very quickly and can kill its victims by neck snapping or strangulation.
Height : 2 Meter
Weight : 250-500 Kilograms
SCP-173 is estimated to be approximately 2 meters tall and weigh between 250 and 500 kilograms. Its weight is large because its body appears to be made of reinforced concrete (concrete and iron inside). This appearance fits its physical description: a rough, statue-like surface, and the material is commonly used for strong and rigid structures. However, the origin of SCP-173 being able to live or move despite its seemingly inanimate material remains unknown, and is part of its mystery.
SCP Foundation's top-secret facilities, Site-19
SCP-173 is currently contained at Site-19, one of the SCP Foundation's top-secret facilities. Site-19 is the largest repository for controllable SCP objects, including Euclid-class objects like 173. SCP-173 was first discovered in 1993 at an undisclosed location. After being discovered, the object was immediately secured by the SCP Foundation due to its extremely dangerous and unnatural nature it could move on its own and kill only when not in sight. The Foundation then moved it to Site-19 for research and storage, complete with special monitoring procedures (must always be maintained with eye contact by at least 3 people when cleaning the room).
Unknown
SCP-173 was first discovered by the Foundation in 1993, but there is no record of who created it, when it was created, or how it came to life. Because it is made of concrete and metal like a man-made statue, some researchers in the SCP world speculate that it may have been created by someone or something, but then "came to life" due to anomalous influences. SCP-173's exact age is unknown. What is known is that it was discovered in 1993 and has been kept by the Foundation ever since.
SCP-173 can only move when no one is looking directly at it. Once eye contact is lost, it will move extremely fast towards its target and kill by neck snapping or strangulation. Despite being made of concrete, its movements are unreasonably fast, almost like teleportation. However, as long as there is only one person staring at it without blinking, it will remain completely still, as if it were a statue.
CONTAINED
SCP-173 is a very fast, deadly entity that can only move when unobserved. It acts like a living statue that is always ready to kill anyone who is caught off guard.
SCP-173 can only be interacted with if there are at least three people in the room to maintain eye contact on a regular basis. Eye contact is essential as it will move and attack if no one is looking, even in the split second that everyone blinks. It does not react to sound or emotion, and is focused solely on killing when there is an opening. SCP-173 has also been known to leave traces of blood and a mysterious brown substance on the floor, although its origin is unknown. Surveillance cameras are unable to stop it as only direct human observation is effective. Many victims have been the result of simple negligence such as looking away for a moment or thinking it is just a statue. Therefore, full focus and adherence to protocol are essential when interacting with SCP-173.
