Object Class: Keter
SCP-169, known as "The Leviathan", is a colossal biological entity believed to be one of the largest living organisms to have ever existed on Earth. Its estimated length ranges from 2,000 to 8,000 kilometers, making it larger than most landmasses or island chains. Its immense size has led to portions of its body being mistakenly identified as islands or parts of the ocean floor for centuries.
Size
2.000 - 8.000 kilometers
Special Containment Procedures: Because of its size, SCP-169 cannot and almost certainly will never be contained. SCP Foundation focuses on monitoring and preventing human interaction with the creature. no structure on earth is large enough or strong enough to contain SCP-169.
Location
Southern Atlantic Ocean.
The exact location of SCP-169 is unknown due to its extremely slow movement and vast size. However, unofficial reports from the Foundation suggest that its “body” may currently form part of a remote island chain in the South Atlantic Ocean. Attempts to observe SCP-169 via aerial or underwater reconnaissance often fail due to sudden electromagnetic interference or extreme weather anomalies. But imaging satellites and analyses of eccentricities in the Earth's orbit suggest SCP-169 is located in the southern Atlantic Ocean, possibly stretching around the tip of South America.
Age
Thought to have existed since the Precambrian era.
The Precambrian Era is the earliest and longest span of Earth’s history, covering about 88% of geological time. It lasted from the formation of the Earth around 4.6 billion years ago up to 541 million years ago, just before the Cambrian Period.
Movement
Very slow, less than one kilometer per week
Status
Dormant/inactive
SCP-169 is believed to be in a near-constant dormant state. However, slight shifts in its body such as slow, rhythmic “breathing” movements or gradual repositioning are capable of generating tsunamis, coastal shifts, and even large-scale undersea earthquakes. The entity does not exhibit hostile behavior, but the sheer impact of its existence poses a severe geophysical threat.
Notes
Massive.
Ancient marine arthropod.
Not many know about SCP-169's behaviour, such as reproduction, food source, or nesting area.
Dissemination of any information related to SCP-169 is strictly prohibited.
All satellite imagery, scientific reports, and geological documents showing anomalies linked to SCP-169 are to be censored or revised in accordance with Foundation protocols.
Eurypterids, often informally called sea scorpions, are a group of extinct marine arthropods that form the order Eurypterida. The earliest known eurypterids date to the Darriwilian stage of the Ordovician period, 467.3 million years ago.
Anomalocaris was a bizarre, ancient sea creature that lived about 500 million years ago during the Cambrian period. It looked like a mix between a shrimp and a squid, with large compound eyes, a circular mouth full of sharp plates, and two spiny appendages it used to grab prey. Measuring up to 1 meter long, it was one of the earliest apex predators in Earth’s oceans.
A guy known as Adrian believed he encounter the SCP-169, a massive entity live beneath the ocean. It all happened as he was going on a vacation with his fellow friends, Rey and Melvyn.
He did managed to draw what he saw that day, herei s some of them
This is what Adrian and his friends saw that day
He assumed this is what the tail looks like from above
After Melvyn told Adrian about the SCP Foundation website, he later did some research and found how it really looks like
In this project, I created an audio narrative recording that I uploaded to YouTube, titled "Personal Testimony – A Mysterious Encounter in the Atlantic Ocean" This recording features a fictional story presented as a personal testimony from a young man named Adrian, who, along with his two close friends Rey and Melvyn, experiences a mysterious and terrifying event while sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from Recife, Brazil to Dakar, Senegal.
The story is told in a first-person format, as if it were a real, personal recording, aiming to capture a sense of mystery, awe, and fear. In the narrative, Adrian describes how he and his friends witness a massive, moving entity rising from the ocean so large that it appears like a chain of islands slowly shifting in the distance. This creature, emitting sea mist and vanishing slowly back into the depths, is later identified as SCP-169, also known as The Leviathan.
The encounter leaves the characters shaken and deeply curious. Adrian even sketches the creature from memory, which eventually leads him to discover information about SCP-169 through obscure online forums. This project combines elements of science fiction, horror, and mockumentary-style storytelling to create an immersive experience that blurs the line between fact and fiction.
