Route description to follow.
EXTENDED UNTIL 31ST MARCH 2021!
Before lockdown, before trail dawgs, before Caballo Blanco, a mythical route was said to exist in the mountains above Muizenberg. Older then the Barkley marathons, more steeped in mystery and tradition then the western states it is rumoured to have first been run by a mysterious figure known only as “Crute” - Man or wizard 🧙🏻♂️? Nobody knows ?! When run both ways it is said to restore mind, body and soul even in the darkest times (ie now).
Through extensive research, debate and consultations Trail Dawgs presents the Corona Crute Loops !
Break the curse of the Rona by tackling the Crute Loop and Reverse Crute Loop below. Record your times for each route using strava (or whatever you like) on the spreadsheet below.
For now get out there and enjoy 🧙🏻♂️💨🤟🏻.. and add your runs to the Google sheet below.
The Segments:
https://www.strava.com/segments/26887930
Form a team of 2. Name your team. Take on the MTD Challenge #2 route - an uphill battle of attrition with the mule path (https://www.strava.com/segments/24922506 ) as many times as you can until Sunday August 30th. Record your combined team time. Prizes for fastest times , biggest percentage improvement & most times completed during the challenge period + most mulish photo & best team name (if I can get enough prizes together). Record your team details and attempts on the spreadsheet.
May the might of the Mule be with you !
From Muizenberg up to Silvermine and back via Kalk Bay.
About 30km.
A great way of getting some good mileage in with loads of elevation.
Especially if you're tackling "something UTCT like" later in the year.
The idea is to do the route at basically any time that suits you on the 9th or 10th of August within the legal hours your allowed on the mountain.
4 people max in your group in order to keep social distancing protocol.
You can cover the entire route by yourself or split it as a team in the same way they do the Hout Bay Trail challenge.
100% self sufficient run.
No entries and definitely not a race.
Here's the entire route if you plan to do it by yourself.
Maybe an idea to NOT flex your Pecks at the start of this one.
Mix of jeep and single track with single track definitely well over the 50% side.
There are 6 places you need to tag : (By taking a photo with yourself and these points)
Muizenberg Peak
Steenberg Peak
The Fire Hut - The firehut in Silvermine above Tokai.
Noordhoek Peak
The directional Cairn in the Amphitheater (Above Kalk Bay)
Kalk Bay Peak
It's just so we know you've been there.
Otherwise your Strava link will do.
If you don't tag them in order that's also okay, it'll just mean you've been out there forever.
Check out this route on Strava: https://strava.app.link/2vMKjVq6o8 — Not A Race Challenge
Beat your PB up Pecks (from the archway on Boyes drive to the crossroads at the top) ! 6 home brews courtesy of @John Futter for biggest time improvement (ie . It took me 30 min and now I did in 25 min = 5 min ). Take a photo of yourself as you finish for an extra 30 sec bonus. Ending Sunday the 19th!
Why ? Cos Pecks is meant to hurt but it makes the beer taste so much better..
