APE Workshop CSULB
On November 7th, 2025, CSULB hosted a conference called the Adapted Physical Education Workshop. In the months leading up to the conference, I got to help make flyers and social media posts to increase engagement with the workshop and spread awareness of the event. On the day of the conference, I supported volunteers, checked on the speakers, and offered assistance to anyone who needed it so the conference would run smoothly. I also had the opportunity to participate in a group presentation with my cohort titled Thematic Activities for Students with Disabilities. I shared one of my favorite activities that I have used with my students during my semester student teaching.
Camp Abilities Reykjavik, Iceland
In October 2025, I got to travel to Reykjavik, Iceland with a group from my cohort to volunteer for Camp Abilities Iceland. Camp Abilities is an educational sports camp designed for children who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind. As a volunteer, I worked with the athletes to introduce them to sports such as swimming, golf, rock climbing, Icelandic judo, wrestling, gymnastics, archery, fitness, goalball, and indoor kayaking. I learned a lot about supporting individuals with visual impairments.
Camp Spark McMinnville, OR
In July 2025, I flew to Oregon to be a camp counselor for students with visual impairments! Camp Spark is an amazing camp that is sports-centered and designed to allow its campers to meet new friends, become more independent, and participate in sports such as goalball, tandem biking, track and field, and swimming. Camp Spark taught me new ways to adapt physical activity for people with visual impairments. I had the opportunity to work closely with campers of my own to learn how to support people with visual impairments.
Camp Nugget & 49er Camp CSULB
During the summer of 2025, I had the opportunity to be a camp counselor at Camp Nugget and 49er Camp at CSULB.
Camp Nugget taught me how to implement inclusion and teach students how to work with others with disabilities. I got to teach my students how to be leaders, friends, and cheerleaders for others. I was also able to teach them about different kinds of disabilities and ways we can help others with their emotions and behaviors.
49er Camp allowed me to practice classroom management, setting expectations, and creating structure and order. I got to learn and teach new physical activities that I will be able to use throughout my career as a PE teacher.
PacRim Honolulu, HI
In April 2025, I had the opportunity to go to Hawaii with my Certified Adapted Physical Education (CAPE) cohort to present on Transition Collaboration in University and Public Schools at the Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity. My partner and I presented on an activity that combined matching and spelling with physical activity! We included accommodations and modifications so individuals with all abilities could participate. We also got to volunteer at a surfing event for veterans with disabilities.
Camp Abilities CSULB
In April 2025, I got to help plan and host Camp Abilities Long Beach! Camp Abilities was a one-day sports camp hosted at CSULB. We invited students with visual impairments to come to our campus to experience playing sports that have been modified to their needs, such as goalball, track and field, soccer, and tandem biking. I coached tandem biking and had a blast!
CAHPERD Pasadena, CA
In May 2025, I participated in a group presentation on Thematic Activities for Students with Disabilities at the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (CAHPERD) conference. I presented an activity called Musical Hearts, which I played with students in February for Valentine's Day! The activity is fun, thematic, and includes appropriate modifications and accommodations for students with all abilities. After presenting, I got to attend a luncheon to speak with retired APE teachers, as well as listen to other presentations. At the conference, a group of my peers and I participated in a student competition against other schools. We participated in many different activities and won!
