"When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower." - Alexander Den Heijer
The presence of a positive classroom environment can make an exponential difference in a student's learning and overall productiveness. According to the Danielson Framework for Teaching, teachers must foster student growth and success by creating an environment of respect and rapport, establishing a culture for learning, managing classroom procedures and student behavior, and organizing the physical workspace. The way in which teachers communicate with students makes a huge difference in the relationships that are established and developed between them, and, therefore, the mutual respect given and received by both parties. An effective teacher must understand their students and use their knowledge of them to have effective interactions.
Students should feel relaxed and comfortable learning from their teacher, in an engaging environment that promotes learning. Teachers should be able to keep students engaged in their lessons by smoothly transitioning from activity to activity, without much downtime for students to become bored and uninterested. Teachers also need to make their classroom expectations clear to their students, and find effective ways to handle situations in which these expectations are not met.
