Students can access the online textbook through Clever.
We will use the hardback version in class.
Canvas is used district and school-wide, as previous years.
We will have one online lesson on Canvas each week, as well as brief weekly quizzes.
Students should bring their charged Chromebooks to class daily.
Parents, please help your student organize their student Google drive by archiving files and folders from previous years into one folder.
Then, please have them create a new folder for each class this year. They should title the folder for this class, "Texas History".
TExas History Curriculum
Our 7th grade Texas History class follows the state-mandated curriculum, as planned by our school district. To review the TEKS (learning objectives) we will be covering this year, please review our district curriculum page. Lessons and assessments are in alignment to develop historical literacy skills for both the further study of history and other social sciences, as well as become empowered emerging young adult members of our community. We will also have some fun while we're at it. There is no STAAR test for this class.
This week's lesson plans
Parents, we look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year to better support your student. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns or to make a plan together to make-up work should your child miss more than a couple of days of class due to illness or family obligations. E-mail is usually the most effective way to initiate those conversations. We can be reached at Renee.Oricchio@pfisd.net or Jake.Young@pfisd.net Please allow one business day for a response. If it is an emergency, please contact our 7th-grade principal (Andre.Underwood@pfisd.net) or counselor (Sandra.Sebesta@pfisd.net).
In the event of minor academic or behavioral concerns in the classroom, We will try to address this with your child FIRST giving them the opportunity to take responsibility and self-correct as a maturing young adult. If concerns persist, we will contact you by phone or email. If your student has similar issues or needs in other classes, we can also coordinate with those teachers to reach out to you so we can all jointly work together to develop a plan to best help your child in the most positive, supportive, and substantive way.
Grading Policies
We abide by the district and KLMS campus grading policies. This includes:
Students will have the opportunity to retest and raise a failing assessment grade up to 70. Students must take the retest within five school days after getting their grade.
Students have five school days to hand in late work for partial credit only.
Plagiarism, violating testing room expectations, copying work from another student or outside party are all considered cheating and will result in a disciplinary referral and a zero. If it is a major grade, the student will have the opportunity to retest for a 70 or less. If it is a minor grade, the student will have the opportunity to complete an alternative assignment for a 70 or less. Parents will be notified.
Students and parents are encouraged, together, to check grades in Skyward weekly, go over IPR grades that are sent home every three weeks, and monitor assignment deadlines and test dates tracked daily in their school agenda.
