Everything around us exists because of chemistry so having an understanding of it is important to be able to understand how life works. Basic chemical bonds as well as water and it's unique properties will start us off.
Vocab:
Electron- a negatively charged particle that orbits the nucleus of an atom.
Proton- a positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom.
Ion- an ion occurs when the atom has a negative or positive charge due to loss or gain of an electron
*When electrons and protons are in balance the atom has a neutral charge.
Hydrogen bonds- weakest bond, created by slightly - and slightly + charges coming together (example: two water molecules sticking together)
week 3.2 Properties of Water
Take notes :)
Be able to draw and label a water molecule bonded to another water molecule. As a polar covalent molecule, one side is slightly positive and one is slightly negative. Which is which?
