We have been covering NWH MSK service since January 2020. The service is mixed diagnostic and intervention. Stay tuned for details as things may change.
Getting to NWH:
Newton-Wellesley Hospital is located at 2014 Washington St, Newton, MA 02462
The radiology department is on the first floor.
To get there, you can take the Green Line (D) to Woodland Station and it's a 5 minute walk. If you take an Uber/Lyft, you can select either East or West entrance (avoid the ED entrace, becacuse it's farther from the Radiology department)
You can also drive. The parking is free (one time payment $15 to get parking pass, Cash Only). See directions below of how to get your Parking Pass and ID. Please try to do this before the first day.
ID Badge and Parking Registration Hours: Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) 7:00 AM- 7:30 AM, 11:30 AM- 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM- 3:30 PM. They should've contacted you before the beginning of fellowship, but if you have any issues regarding your badge, you can try to contact Arlene Graff or email nwhbadging@partners.org
Go to the Allen Riddle Building; located up the driveway on your left-hand side of the hospital. Once in the building go towards the elevator which are on your right side approx. 10-12 steps in from the front door. Beside the elevators are stairs. Go to the basement. Open the door and turn to your left. Walk all the way down that corridor. Security is on your left. Pick up the phone and state you are there. They will give you the badge and take the ID picture. They should give you Radiologists hospital access. When you leave Security, the door next to it on the right is Parking. Fill the form out attached or you can fill one out there. They will ask for the $15 dollars and explain parking to you. Your license plate info is needed on the form.
NWH pager
Activated only from 8am-5pm
Should stay in the fellow room (do not take it with you)
After 5pm it will be automatically forwarded to the on-call bone pager
NWH procedures
There are 2 radiology assistants (Megan and Kirsten) who do a lot of the fluoro procedures (joints, bursa, tendon sheaths)
Fellow covers all ultrasound and CT procedures
Please see images below to see how to add the NWH snapboard.
The CT techs rotate a lot and haven't really become familiar with our procedures and what is needed. When you have a procedure, print out the appropriate document from below and hand it to them before the procedure - it will make things go much more smoothly. There is not a focal bone lesion document because these procedures are rare and require more customization (e.g. needle type), so we'll have to figure these out as they come
I also have documents for US but since I gave them these one time, they seem to be on top of things but I've also posted documents you can hand them to help facilitate the procedure if necessary.
Nurses may request some discharge documents/instructions for patients. Please see below for some information on how to do that.
NWH BONE MARROW BIOPSIES
Prior to a bone marrow biopsy, call Hematology at x6095 to ask for assistance in collecting the slides
For ALL biopsies, regardless of potential diagnosis, collect two purple top and two green top tubes. They also want 13 slides (5 sets of smears (10 slides) and 4 to 6 touch preps) - but a Hematology tech will come down with the specimen collection.
The rest of the procedure is the same as what happens at MGH.
