Fall 2023: During my third semester here at Dominican, I got to transition from being in a 2nd-grade class to a 2nd-grade/3rd-grade combo class. I have never been in a combo class before, so I have learned a lot in this classroom. During the time I went to Mrs.Pfeifer's classroom, they typically were starting with math time. I have gotten the opportunity to work in a small group with the second graders while also doing group work with the 3rd graders. The math concepts that I have learned about and have gotten the opportunity to teach are arrays, multiple/divisions, and working on different strategies to do addition. During my time in the classroom, I have also watched Mrs.Pfeifer teach science and have been able to observe an art docent lesson. I also got the opportunity to give a test to a student one-on-one with an IEP. All in all, I have learned a tremendous amount being in this classroom. Mrs.Pfeifer does a great job of providing wiggle breaks for her students when transitioning to a new lesson. Overall, it is very clear to me that each student was always engaged, loved to learn, and Mrs.Pfeifer truly cares about each of her students.
Spring 2023: During my second semester here at Dominican, I got to transition from being in a 5th-grade class to a 2nd-grade class and I have loved every minute of it. During my time in her classroom, I have gotten to work in small groups with the kiddos, whether teaching them phonetics, reading/comprehension, spelling, reading a book to them, or just getting to know them. Being around this group of kids has really shown me why I wanted to become a teacher in the first class. They have shown me why I have a love and passion for wanting to teach. Mrs.Vega is such a great teacher and it has been a lot of fun to watch her engage her students and watch her be so calm/patient with each student she interacts with. You can tell her class loves to learn and you can see how passionate Mrs.Vega is. I hope to someday have the impact on my students that Mrs.Vega has on hers.
Fall 2022: During my first semester here at Dominican, my experiences in becoming a teacher have been exceptional. Due to my fieldwork teacher being out until after winter break, I got the opportunity to teach a whole unit. I feel that I have grown in so many different ways and have learned so much about myself. During this semester, it was my first time being in the classroom, so being given the leadership role to take over a science unit was a mix of emotions. I was nervous and excited all at the same time, I learned different strategies to manage behaviors while keeping each of the students engaged. In addition, I learned how to reach each of the student's needs and teach them the material in an engaging way that allowed them to have fun while learning.
