The MSIS Fachausschuss (the German equivalent of a student council) serves as the official student representative body for the MA in Strategy and International Security program. We act as a bridge between students, faculty, and program leadership, ensuring that student perspectives are heard, communicated, and reflected in the continued development of the program.

In this role, we advocate for students by collecting and representing feedback on curriculum, teaching, and program structure, working constructively with faculty and leadership to support continuous improvement. We also support professional development by sharing relevant opportunities—including internships, events, and career resources—to help students navigate their career paths. Beyond academics and careers, we aim to build a strong sense of community by organizing social events and fostering connections among students, faculty, and alumni. Recognizing the international nature of the MSIS cohort, we also provide guidance and shared resources to support international students transitioning to life in a new country.

Our goal is to enhance the overall MSIS experience while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment in which students can grow, learn, and prepare for their future careers.

Feedback & Representation

• How can I share feedback or raise a concern?
  The FA holds regular student forums to collect student feedback. You can also use our online feedback form or reach out directly to any FA member to share your feedback.

• Is my feedback anonymous?
  All feedback is treated confidentially and is shared with faculty and program leadership in anonymized form. However, if a submission/situation raises concerns about abuse, harassment, or someone’s safety, we may need to escalate it to the appropriate university channels.

• What happens after I submit feedback?
  We review submissions regularly, identify common themes, and raise them with faculty or program leadership. When appropriate, we also follow up directly or share updates with the cohort.

• Can the FA solve individual academic issues?
  We cannot override faculty or university policies. However, we can help raise concerns with program or university leadership to ensure your issue is considered.

Academic Affairs

• Can the FA influence the curriculum?
  We provide structured student feedback on courses and program design. While final decisions rest with faculty, student input plays an important role in shaping improvements over time.

• How does the FA engage with program leadership?
  The FA meets with MSIS program leadership twice per term to share student feedback and discuss areas for improvement within the program. We also meet on an ad hoc basis to collaborate on any shared projects (ex. Welcome Week).

• Can you help with exam or grading issues?
  We cannot intervene in individual grading decisions. For formal concerns, you should follow official university procedures. That said, we can help point you in the right direction and raise broader issues if patterns emerge.

• What kind of career support does the FA provide?
  We collect and share opportunities such as internships, job postings, fellowships, and events relevant to MSIS students. Our goal is to make useful resources more visible and accessible. Please visit the "Professional Development" page for more information.

• Can the FA help me find an internship or job?
  We’re not able to place students in internships or jobs. However, we regularly share opportunities and resources that can support your search.

• Does the FA provide career advising or coaching?
  No. The FA does not offer individualized career advising or consulting services. For tailored guidance, we recommend using the university’s career services or professional advisors.

International Student Support

• What support is available for international students?
  We share practical resources, tips, and peer advice to help international students navigate academic life, administrative processes, and living in a new country. Please visit the "International Student Support" page for more information.

• Can the FA help me find housing?
  We’re not able to directly secure housing on your behalf. However, we’re happy to share useful resources and lessons learned from our own experiences finding accommodation in Bonn. 

• Can the FA help with visas or residence permit issues?
  No. We’re not an official authority on immigration matters, but we can point you to the appropriate university offices and share general guidance based on student experience.
