Welcome to the MSIS Fachausschuss

The MSIS Fachausschuss (the German equivalent of a "Student Council") serves as the official student representative body for the MA in Strategy and International Security program. We act as a bridge between students, faculty, and program leadership, ensuring that student perspectives are heard, communicated, and reflected in the continued development of the program.

Our goal is to enhance the overall MSIS experience while fostering a supportive environment to grow, learn, and prepare for our futures.

What We Do

📅  Welcome Week: October 5-9

We're excited to welcome both new and returning students to the program's Welcome Week, taking place during the week of October 5. Throughout the week, the MSIS faculty will lead sessions introducing the program, its resources, and what you can expect in the year ahead. In the evenings, the FA will host a variety of social events, providing a great opportunity to connect with your classmates in a relaxed setting. Whether you're just beginning your studies or returning for another semester, we encourage you to join us. 

A detailed schedule of events will be shared via email closer to the start of Welcome Week.

📅  Research Methods and Tools Block Course: October 12-16 from 9am-12pm each day

The Research Methods block course will take place October 12–16, with classes held daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This module is highly recommended for all first-year MSIS students. Second-year students who have already completed the module are welcome to request permission to audit the course.

This course introduces the methodological foundations of security studies as a distinct field within political science. Students will learn how to analyze security challenges using the tools of security research, evaluate and work with academic and policy sources, and apply theory-based approaches to security issues. The course also provides an important foundation for the more advanced coursework throughout the MSIS program.

We are sharing this schedule well in advance, as many incoming students will be settling into Bonn during this period and may be arranging apartment viewings, registering their residence with the local authorities, or attending other important appointments. Please plan these commitments accordingly.
