I decided to construct this lesson as a "beginning of the year" math review. In this lesson, there are various forms of mathematical equations to test the students' skills in the subject area. In addition to the academic portion of the lesson, this is also a great ice breaker activity for the students as well as the teacher. By working in groups around the class, the student will use teamwork to find all the correct answers through collaboration. As an end result, the students will learn some fun facts about their instructor! All in all, this lesson supports my philosophy of a strong classroom community. I like to start early on building and creating relationships in the class, and that is exactly what this lesson plan does.

Fun Activities
After completing the notes on our lesson in class, there will be a corresponding hands-on activity that correlates with the lesson. This is only if the class can get through the activity in a mature manner. I believe in the saying, "work hard, play hard" meaning that if we can power through to get the slower part of the lesson done, we can have a fun time finishing up the lesson with a playful activity. This not only promotes student behavior but also student motivation to get their responsibilities done in the class so they could have time to unwind and enjoy incorporating what we learned on a hands-on activity.
A motivational aspect of our classroom is "Spotlight Student". In this, we will appreciate a student who has shown exceptional work in the classroom for that week. This does not necessarily refer to straight A grades, but the dedication they put into their work and how they interact with others in the class (Acts of Kindness). They will be recognized by the classroom and be rewarded with the Student of the Week chair, along with a printed certificate. A photo of them will be taken and hung up in the classroom to celebrate them for outstanding behavior. The reasoning behind this is to motivate students to work to the best of their abilities in the classroom.
