Math in Room 23
In our classroom, math learning happens through play, exploration, and everyday experiences! Children build a strong foundation in early math by noticing patterns, comparing quantities, counting, sorting, and exploring shapes and measurement in meaningful ways.
Students will...
· Count and recognize numbers in daily routines (like counting steps, toys, or friends at circle time)
· Explore shapes, sizes, and patterns in their environment.
· Sort and group objects by color, size, and type.
· Develop problem-solving skills through hands-on activities and play.
Math is everywhere! Here are some fun and easy ways to build your child’s math thinking at home:
· Count everything: Count apples while grocery shopping or stairs as you climb.
· Play with patterns: Make bead or block patterns and ask, “What comes next?”
· Explore shapes: Go on a shape hunt around your home or neighborhood.
· Sort and compare: Sort laundry by color or size, or compare who has more snacks.
· Cook together: Measure ingredients and talk about “half,” “full,” and “empty.”
· Play board games: Simple dice games help with counting and turn-taking.
