"Attitude: A set of acquired feelings about reading that consistently predispose an individual to engage in or avoid reading (Stahl et al., 2020) ."Â
Your child's relationship to reading matters. This year, we will create many positive experiences for your child in relation to reading to increase their likelihood of becoming a lifelong reader. These experiences will be informed by your child's reading interests, how much value they ascribe to reading as a practice, and their self-confidence as a reader.
This page (PBS Kids) will provide book recommendations pertaining to your child's interests and culture. By reading books that build on your child's prior knowledge, or what they already know about, your child's reading confidence will skyrocket!
This page (PBS Kids) will provide literacy building games your child can play independently. If your child struggles to motivate themself to read and write, this website can help them improve their relationship to both.
