BBT 9 Assigned Work

Broad Based Technology 9

Assigned Work List & Additional Material

  • For Potato Harvest students: If you have any questions or assignments to submit, email them here: Todd.Swim@nbed.nb.ca

  • Your first time on the computer, when we are in the computer lab, you will need to make a folder called, "BBT9", in your personal (U:) drive. (Don't worry about this if you are working from home! You can email them to me instead at the email address above.)

  • I will be assigning work from the New Brunswick BBT site: You can access the New Brunswick Broad Based Technology Education, BBT site here.

  • You will be saving all work to your U:\BBT 9 folder.(Don't worry about this if you are working from home! If you are working from home you will be emailing me your assignments.)

  • When saving files be sure to use a descriptive file name for that particular activity, if one is not provided.

  • Save your work frequently! You should make about 8 to 10 saves per class! Only save in your U drive (when at school)Office 365's OneDrive or Google drive! They are the only safe places for your course work! Do not save on the local computer!

Make sure you make frequent saves of your workbook to your BBT 9 folder, so you don't lose work! (Don't worry about this if you are working from home!)

Broad Based Technology Education Modules for Mr. Swim's Grade 9 BBT

Unit 1

Things To Do for Home Use in BBT9:

1. You will need to go to the Office 365 lesson found on my Student Tutorials page and click here for The Office 365 Training Center - this site has video tutorials for each application on the Office 365 software suite. Take some time to explore this page before moving on.

2. Work on an ASCII art assignment of your choosing. Don't pick anything too complicated. However, let your creativity flow! You can find my ASCII art lesson page with some helpful information on it on my Student Tutorials page.

3. Snipping Tool Activity. Save your powerpoint files as Snip 1 and Snip 2 . You can either upload them to me in MSTeams, email them to me, or print them off and bring them to me your next day in school. Go to the Snipping Tool link in the Student Tutorials tab at the top of this web page. There is also a YouTube video that you could use to review my classroom lesson for both the Snipping tool and MSPowerpoint removing the background from images.

4. Complete the Animated Graphics module from the Student Tutorials page, in the top menu of this web page. Make sure you turn the powerpoint in to me as per my directions.

5. Typing will be done during class time at school where I can mark you while you are doing it. If you choose to type extra from home, type an extra 2 hours a week. Make sure your hands are covered with something. We use cut down cardboard boxes at school to cover your hands and the keyboard, but a tea towel will work if you want extra practice at home. The most important thing about learning how to touch type is to not look at your fingers. Keep them covered.

6. Hour of Code - click here.

Here are some websites to use but they are not exclusive. If you find one you prefer to use go for it.

    • Online Typing Tutor - this is a great site for learning finger placement.

    • TypeRacer - this is the favourite one students in my class like to use.

    • Typesy - Good solid program for home use.

    • Here is a search for typing programs for you to use if you wish; click here.

More to follow if we end up needing it.

The activities below are intended for use in class. (Don't worry about this if you are working from home!)
