Homework will be limited in my classroom for many different reasons. I believe that students need to be able to go home and take a break from school, as well as spend time with their friends and family. I am also an advocate for participating in extracurricular activities outside of school, and the demands that go along with that occupy time outside of school. If students work hard while they are in school, then I am confident that they will progress academically without the need for extra homework.
There will be times that students do have homework; however, I do my best to provide ample time to get it completed. If students do not utilize their time to get their work completed in class, it will be assigned for homework. I do see an importance with homework needing to be assigned from time to time, and responsibility is a life skill that students need to learn how to manage.
When students are assigned homework, it will be communicated in their assignment notebook. The assigned day that the homework is due will be indicated. I am also available to help students if they need extra assistance with their assignment. If a student has a late assignment, it will be communicated with parents so we can work together to help the student become more responsible in the future and develop a plan to get the work completed.
To best support your child at home with school, reading should be at the top of the list. Although homework may not be assigned regularly, I encourage students to carve out time to read to help reach their quarterly AR Goal!
