At Red Dot, Blue Dot Preschool, science is more than an experiment—it’s a way to explore the world! We believe that when children act as little scientists, they develop a lifelong desire to find answers to their questions.
The Scientific Process in Our Classroom:
Observe & Gather: Using all five senses, preschoolers observe the world around them to gather information. They learn to identify and compare similarities and differences in colors, shapes, and sizes.
Predict & Infer: Before a project begins, we practice our "inferring" skills. Based on their prior knowledge and observations, the children make predictions (educated guesses) about what might happen next.
Collaborate & Communicate: Science is a team effort! Preschoolers work together, communicating their ideas and observations to complete projects as a group.
Discover New Knowledge: By watching the results of a project unfold, children gain new information that builds upon what they already know, fueling their natural curiosity.
While many have heard of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), at Red Dot, Blue Dot Preschool, we embrace STEAM—integrating Art into the mix. This modern approach to learning challenges young minds and invites creative problem-solving from the very start.
How We STEAM:
Hands-On Engineering: We provide preschoolers with a variety of materials and a challenge: Build something! These open-ended opportunities allow them to explore the basics of engineering and design.
Creative Problem Solving: Whether working together in a group or exploring individually, children are encouraged to find their own unique solutions to challenges.
Open-Ended Creativity: By including Art in our STEM activities, we ensure that each project is an opportunity for self-expression as well as logical thinking.
These activities are designed to create "little engineers" who aren't afraid to try new things, test their ideas, and think outside the box!
