At Red Dot, Blue Dot Preschool, we believe literacy is the foundation of a child's education. Our goal is to spark an interest in the letters and sounds of the world, helping every child become an excited emerging reader.
Phonemic Awareness & Phonics
We focus on more than just the names of letters; we dive into the sounds they make.
Blending & Segmenting: We practice putting sounds together to form words and breaking them apart again.
Sound Location: We listen for sounds (phonemes) at the beginning, middle, and end of words to build the phonemic awareness necessary for reading and spelling.
Name Recognition: Each preschooler works on recognizing, spelling, and writing their own name.
Multisensory Letter Learning
True to our multisensory philosophy, we use all our senses to make letters stick! We use actions, movements, smelling, tasting, and touching objects that begin with each letter sound. This creates deeper neural connections and makes learning to read an active, fun adventure.
A Love for Literature
We surround our students with books to foster a lifelong love of reading.
Daily Reading: We read two to three books every day that connect to our lessons. This builds vocabulary, increases concentration, and teaches children about the diverse world around them.
An Environment of Books: Books are always available on our shelves in both the toy room and the main room.
Spontaneous Storytime: It is common to see our preschoolers choose a book over a toy, asking for a story while waiting for friends to arrive or depart.
