Hello! My name is Brandi Fleckenstein, but students call me Ms. Fleck. The 2021-2022 school year will be my 18th year teaching and my tenth year at North Windy Ridge Intermediate School working alongside Ashley Willis on the Fleck & Willis Team. Our co-teacher is Laurie Seleski.
Our team loves what we do and it shows! Students on our team can expect to work hard, challenge themselves and have fun! Students can also expect to feel supported and respected.
In math, my goals are to develop students' problem solving skills and sense-making through inquiry-based activities and problem sets. All students are expected to grow, with the goal to master the standards and skills in 6th grade math and science.
Each student is running their own race, and you can expect me to meet your student where they are and coach them to their personal best this school year.
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
I live in sweet town of Burnsville with my husband, Chip and our two dogs. Oberon is a dachshund and Hazel is a Plott hound.
Born in Canada, you may here my accent come out from time to time, eh! I grew up in Windsor, Ontario, which is located just across the river SOUTH of Detroit, Michigan. The Lions, Tigers, Pistons & Redwings are my favorite pro sports teams!
My family moved to Ohio through work when I was 17, the summer before my senior year of high school. I stayed in Ohio for my freshman year of college, but moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and began working for Zingerman's Community of Businesses. After years of babysitting and tutoring friends' and colleagues' children, I decided to change careers and went back to school to become a teacher.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated Grand Valley State University in Michigan (my freshman year was at Ohio University Zanesville) and earned my B.S. in Science with a Biology Emphasis. In 2012, I earned my National Board Certification in Adolescent Mathematics (Grades 5-9). I will be renewing that certification this school year and am looking forward to reflecting upon and improving my teaching practices with your child. In January 2021, I earned my Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (Middle Grades) at Western Governors University.
