Action Plan:
I believe most negative behaviors and interactions in the classroom can be avoided by having clear procedures. Unclear procedures lead to a chaotic and dysfunctional classroom. By having clearly defined procedures the students should not be confused about what they are supposed to be doing at any given time. Procedures allow the students to have consistency in the classroom which leads to better behaved students. From my experience most students get off task when they do not know what is expected of them during different parts of the day. These procedures will be student led and they will have a heavy influence on what procedure works best for them.
Rationale and Reflection:
An effective teacher will always develop a clear and well-defined classroom management plan. The management plan will outline procedures so the class can run smoothly. Procedures describe exactly how things are to be conducted during the class. Clear expectations for student actions are vital to a well-managed classroom. "Laying out expectations clearly and precisely can contribute to students' motivation (Walker & Greene 2010). Building a consistent classroom culture through procedures is important because students need to feel like the classroom is predictable. As a student I often had teachers without clear procedures. This left me with a feeling of anxiety and often ended up off task. Clear procedures to follow will let students know exactly what they should be doing. Furthermore, I want to always include the students in the procedure making process to make them take ownership of the classroom.
