Learn: Beginning to Create
Goal: Record MIDI using your computer keyboard. Understand the difference between audio and MIDI.
1. Watch this video to begin.
2. Record at least 5 different instruments or drum racks using MIDI. Try playing it in and recording or use the draw tool to click in notes.
3. Attempt to Arrange your musical creations in Arrangement View.
4. Complete Lesson 2 of this document. (Workbook)

- Login to Desktop.
- Plug in Headphones in Aux port in front of PC.
- Click the Ableton Live Icon on the Desktop to Open.
- Watch Mr. Fox's Recording MIDI lecture while following along in Live. You are welcome to pause the video to try out different skills!
*Important Items
- Know difference between MIDI and Audio tracks
- Make sure the track you want to record is "Armed"
- Choose different sounds from the browser on the left to record
- Use "Info View" helpers if confused (Cheat Code)
- Make sure Computer MIDI Keyboard is highlighted (Top Right)
- Record at least 5 different MIDI tracks (Ctrl+Shift+T to create MIDI Track)
- Remember, YOU CAN'T BREAK THE SOFTWARE (Ctrl+Z is your friend)
5. Open Lesson 2 Document (Workbook) to begin exploring and answering guided assessment questions.
