Course Overview

HYBRID CLASS FORMAT:

For this intramural we will meet three times a week for hour and a half sessions. The intramural will be two months in length which will give you plenty of time to become familiar with the concepts of music production.

Expectations During Sessions:

• Follow lessons according to each step provided.
• Ask questions that benefit the group and yourself.
• Attempt each lesson's objective.
• Collaborate with the instructor and others in the intramural.
• Review and interact with feedback in Course Workbook.

Expectations After or In Between Sessions:

• Review Lessons, PRACTICE!
• Email Mr. Fox with questions that you encounter while practicing.
• Complete each lesson's objectives.
• Use resources that the course provides (Resources Page) or elsewhere.
• Complete each lesson's workbook for review.

COMMUNICATION POLICY:

This course has been developed to utilize asynchronous and synchronous communication. While most of the course work will be completed via synchronous activities during the intramural time, there will be opportunities for students to work individually with the software at home on your PC.

To clarify the difference between asynchronous and synchronous communication, please read below:

• Asynchronous communication does not require the teacher and students to communicate in real-time, but rather allows them to express ideas and exchange information when they are available to do so — i.e., discussion threads, email, etc.
• Synchronous communication requires the teacher and students to participate in two-way conversations/discussions, sharing ideas and exchanging information in real-time — i.e., Teamviewer or face-to-face conversations

Student-to-Teacher Communication:

In the event that you need to contact me regarding a personal matter or if you have questions/concerns, please feel free to email me at jordan.fox@hvs.org . While I will make every attempt to respond in a timely manner, please allow 24-48 hours to receive a response. If your question/concern is general, you may also post a discussion thread on our website under the Sharing page. Your classmates will have the opportunity to view what you post, therefore please be advised before doing so.

Student-to-Student Communication:

You will have many opportunities to communicate with fellow classmates throughout the course. Types of communication will include peer collaboration, a virtual meeting and collaboration via Teamviewer, and providing feedback via SoundCloud for constructive criticism. It is imperative that you are respectful when sharing opinions, beliefs and ideas with your classmates. Please remember, what you post will be visible to me and your classmates, therefore choose your words wisely and always think before you post. Your contributions are a direct reflection of you and the reputation you choose to uphold. Although you may not always agree with the opinion, belief or idea of your classmates, you must always be respectful when engaging in dialogue.

General Guidelines:

Since electronic communication lacks a sense of emotion and tone, please make sure you are extremely careful before expressing your opinions, beliefs and ideas with myself and your classmates. You must follow these guidelines:

• Always avoid using negative words. Instead, use constructive criticism to convey your thoughts, ideas or opinions.
• Make sure that what you are contributing is relevant to what we are learning about in class.
• Always proofread your work before publishing online. Avoid slang and profanity. Always use proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and writing mechanics.
• Be patient with yourself and your classmates. We all learn at different paces, but it is crucial that we help one another along the way. What you may find easy, a classmate may find it more difficult.
• Be empathetic. Put yourself in others' shoes before you comment or contribute an idea, thought or belief.
• Music is extremely relative based in what people enjoy, be mindful and considerate of other's musical tastes rather than critical. Music brings joy to people, do not ruin that!

• PC with internet connection
• Ableton Live 10 DAW Software
• Headphones (Preferably Over-The-Earl)
• Google Drive
• SoundCloud Account (We will create one if you don't have it)

NOT REQUIRE BUT REALLY COOL:

• Audio Interface (Recording Guitar, Vocals...basically anything)
• Teamviewer (Free Desktop Remote Control for Collaboration)
• Microphone (Mr. Fox will bring one)
• Any Instrument, Guitar, Xylophone, Trumpet, Flute, Didgeridoo, etc
• Cell Phone (For Found Sound)

GRADING POLICY

Meeting the goals of the course will be the primary objective of your work and learning. Deadlines are important so you can move forward with creating music and trying new skills that build upon each other. If you are not completing the objectives within the time allotted or putting effort toward achievement of goals, you will be reminded that you took another student's spot in this course considering the limited seats.

Goals are black and white, either it's complete or it's not. Level of expertise will vary with each learner and that will not be considered for success in this course.

Your Final Evaluation will be to successfully complete the goals of the course. Create, Export, Share, and Provide feedback to others regarding their work.
