Hello everyone! My name is Chris Dockter, and I am excited to tell you all a bit about myself! I am 37 years old and was born and raised here in Colorado. I have been with my wife for 10 years now and we have been married for almost 8 years. We have a 6-year-old little boy, along with my 16-year-old stepson. I have worked in the mortgage/real estate business for the last 11 years and still hold a full-time job in this field.
I am very active outdoors; I have done 32 14ers, enjoy camping, fishing, and like to explore the mountains when I can. My son and I enjoy building Lego sets, riding bikes, doing art projects, and watching sports. I enjoy reading books and comics, making items with my 3D printer, going to the gym, watching movies and try to make it to Comic Con every year. I am a bit of geek when it comes down to it. I also enjoy going to concerts when I get a chance. Life seems to get busier the older I get.
I graduated from MSU Denver in December 2012 with a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Political Science. After I graduated, I traveled to South America and backpacked around for three months. I got to visit historical sites such as Machu Picchu, reached 20.000 feet above sea level on an active volcano, and saw how great this world could be. Once I returned, I started working and started to settle into a so-called normal life.
This time around at MSU Denver I am reaching for a dream of mine that I had since high school; to get a teaching certificate and become a high school History teacher. You may be thinking "why didn't I do this when you were in college in the first place?" The truth is, life was complicated when I was younger, and student teaching would have been a problem financially for me. However, the passion of wanting to teach has always been in my mind and I can finally take the steps needed to go for this dream. I always thought of teaching when I was younger. I first wanted to teach math but then I took Calculus and decided this wasn't for me, but that same year of high school I had a World History class, and my teacher showed me how amazing learning history could truly be. I was hooked. I started reading more about history and felt like I could be really good at getting more people interested into learning about it. I also hold a substitute teaching certificate, which I hope to utilize in the feature to gain more teaching knowledge and practice.
