Born and raised in Lima, Peru, I was educated in a private school through Elementary and Middle School. As I transitioned to the States at the age of 15, I attended a public High School in Loudoun County, Virginia. After high school, I attended a public University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a double minor in Special Education and Neuroscience.
My first experience in a classroom started when I worked at Kids R Kids Learning Academy for Grades 2-5. I learned about teaching classroom routines and expectations, social skills opportunities, and creating an inclusive classroom community through instructional learning, field trips, and theatre performances. I had the pleasure to work with students with ID (Intellectual Disabilities) at the high school I attended. During my internship, I learned about IEPs, inclusion, behavior management, and how to collect data appropriately.
I had the pleasure of teaching for 2.5 years at Goshen Post Elementary School. I taught a Self-Contained K-2 Autism Classroom, teaching different curricula and goals. I gave my students and colleagues my ”all.” Ensuring all my students' needs are met is my passion. When they struggled, I re-invented, re-taught, and did everything I could to help them grow.
I now work for FCPS as a Multiple Disabilities Teacher for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grades at Weyanoke Elementary School. As a case manager for students who participate in the general education classroom and follow the general education curriculum, I tailor appropriate goals to help explore and succeed in the classroom.
As I continue to grow as an educator, I would like to experience teaching different grade levels, goals, behaviors, and expectations across special education and general education students. I am ready to keep going into the career that is my true calling.
