Course Description: Welcome to World History! In this course, we’ll explore the people, movements, and ideas that have shaped our world from ancient civilizations to modern times. Together, we’ll examine how geography, culture, conflict, innovation, and power have influenced societies across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. You’ll learn to think like a historian—asking big questions, analyzing sources, and uncovering voices that history sometimes leaves out. Along the way, you’ll connect past events to today’s world and reflect on how history impacts your own life, identity, and future.
This class is about more than just dates and facts—it’s about curiosity, critical thinking, and seeing the world through many lenses.
🌍 Learning Goals for World History
Examine Global Stories From Diverse Views
Students will explore world history by analyzing diverse perspectives, voices, and experiences across regions, cultures, and time periods
Understand the Impact of Civilizations, Systems, and Ideas
Students will investigate how belief systems, empires, trade networks, and social hierarchies shaped societies—and how they still influence our world today.
Connect the Past to the Present and Future
Students will draw connections between historical patterns and current global challenges, using evidence and empathy to think critically about our shared human experience.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is NOT a shortcut to skip the hard work. In this class, we will use AI on specific assignments as a learning enhancer or multiplier, not a replacement for your voice, your thinking, and/or your effort.
Brainstorming ideas
Making sense of complex concepts or information in a different way
Creating examples or practice questions for topics
Exploring multiple perspectives on a topic for better understanding
Copying answers or letting AI write full essays or ANY short writing assignment for you
Avoiding reading or research assignments
Turning in work that doesn’t reflect your own thinking
Breaking this AI rulebook will always result in a MISSING grade and a brief 24-hour window to resubmit YOUR OWN work with a partial deduction (-15 pts minimum on assignment).
Think of AI as another resource, not your substitute. You’re still the creator & author of your own learning & your own story.
💬 Talk to Me First if your unsure about how you can use of AI. I'm here to work with each one of you to create the right place for it in our classroom.
Keep these WRITTEN in your notebook.
🟨Chronological Thinking Skill - “Know the order in which things happened."
🟧Comprehension Skill - “Read between the lines. What does it really mean?”
🟫Analysis Skill - "Dig deeper."
🔲Research Skill - ““Break it down. Ask better questions. Think it through. Challenge the story.”
⬛Judgement Skill - “What would YOU do - and WHY?”
This class is not just about being factually correct. Originality & Creativity weighs more than anything. There will be times you will need to show your thinking. But you do not have to approach this without tools to guide you.
Why YOU Should Know Your Maps FIRST (Geography 101)
Understanding where in the world events take place is just as important as knowing what happened, who was involved, when it occurred, and how it unfolded. Tighten up on your global awareness by reviewing your maps regularly.
