Know Self.
Know History.
Shape the Future.
Course Description: Get ready to explore stories and perspectives that often get left out of traditional textbooks. In this class, we’ll dive into the experiences of diverse ethnic communities, exploring how race, culture, and identity have shaped life in the United States and how those elements continue to do so. Through open discussions, personal reflections, and real-world connections, you’ll gain the tools to think critically about the systems of power in our society.
But this class isn’t just about learning history. It’s about understanding how the past impacts the present and your role in creating change. Whether it’s examining current events, celebrating cultural resilience, or finding your voice on issues that matter, Ethnic Studies will challenge you to see the world from new perspectives. By the end of this course, you’ll be empowered to make a difference in your community, in our society, and beyond.
As you prepare to close up your high school book and write your new chapter, always remember... your voice matters. Let’s find out why...
Explore Identity and Culture with Purpose
Students will examine how race, ethnicity, culture, and personal identity shape individual experiences and community narratives.
Analyze Power, Oppression, and Resistance
Students will investigate historical and contemporary systems of power, and study how marginalized communities have resisted, survived, and created change.
Build Empathy and Advocate for Justice
Students will engage in critical dialogue, reflect on multiple perspectives, and take informed action to promote equity, inclusion, and social responsibility.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is NOT a shortcut to skip the hard work. In this class, we will use AI on specific assignments as a learning enhancer or multiplier, not a replacement for your voice, your thinking, and/or your effort.
Brainstorming ideas
Making sense of complex concepts or information in a different way
Creating examples or practice questions for topics
Exploring multiple perspectives on a topic for better understanding
Copying answers or letting AI write full essays or ANY short writing assignment for you
Avoiding reading or research assignments
Turning in work that doesn’t reflect your own thinking
Breaking this AI rulebook will always result in a MISSING grade and a brief 24-hour window to resubmit YOUR OWN work with a partial deduction (-15 pts minimum on assignment).
Think of AI as another resource, not your substitute. You’re still the creator & author of your own learning & your own story.
💬 Talk to Me First if your unsure about how you can use of AI. I'm here to work with each one of you to create the right place for it in our classroom.
