Teaching Philosophy

I Believe...

1. That all students have the desire to, and can learn and explore the world around them.

2. That students learn in a variety of different ways, and I must differentiate my instruction to accommodate these learning styles.

3. That students deserve a safe and positive environment in which they can engage in learning to the greatest extent.

4. That no two students are the same. Every student faces unique challenges and other contextual variables that must be taken into account.

5. That all students deserve to be treated with the same dignity and respect that I would expect from them.

6. That all students have the ability to contribute in a positive way to a positive learning environment.

7. That students desire positive relationships.

8. That students learn best when learning opportunities are authentic and engaging.

9. That students have the desire to learn from the world around them, and instruction must be adaptable to the ever changing world.

10. That students have the ability to respond to high, but achievable expectations.

I Believe...

1. That I have the responsibility to create a positive and safe learning environment for all students.

2. That the students are always the first priority, and their safety and learning is at the core of the profession.

3. That I must be able to create learning opportunities that are authentic and engaging.

4. That I must work hard to create positive relationships with my students.

5. That I must always treat my students with dignity and respect.

6. That I must be adaptable and flexible to changing situations.

7. That I have the responsibility to be inviting, and willing to assist students with whatever I can, always keeping confidentiality and anonymity in mind.

8. That I must represent a safe base for students, as I have a responsibility to provide students with a safe and comfortable learning environment.

9. That the best teacher is one who is enthusiastic and passionate about teaching.

10. That I must provide specific and explicit feedback and assessments to compliment and guide student learning.

11. That I am responsible to teaching the curriculum prescribed by Alberta Education.

12. That I must be committed to maintaining the dignity of the profession, and adhering to the professional standards of the Alberta Teachers Association.
