At MPS, we have a recycling program where we collect soft plastics, paper and cardboard, as well as compost for our vegetable garden!
Here is all you need to know!
Soft plastics are items that take a long time to break down like glad wrap and plastic bags. The fact that these everyday items don’t break down causes soft plastics to choke aquatic animals and birds; it also adds to the amount of waste that is in landfill
.Some ways to decrease the amount of soft plastics we use could be to;
Bring your own bags to the supermarkets to put your fruit and veg in.
Avoid buying too many items which have a plastic wrapping.
And just avoid using soft plastic for packing lunches you could put them in containers.
A great way to recycle soft plastics is to ask your local supermarket if they recycle your soft plastics and turn them into things like benches.
Recycling is an important thing to do because you can reuse items like paper and plastic.
If you don't recycle plastic you can't reuse it and there is a high chance it will go into the ocean and kill the aquatic animals. If you want to save animals then start to use paper bags and recyclable items. Here are some more ways to help the world.
In the classroom, keep paper for scrap paper and use the paper/cardboard recycling bin
Stop using plastic bags
Use reusable bags and bottles
When you go to the beach and you see any rubbish then pick it up and put it in the bin
Compost is very important for our environment to recycle food scraps and helps grow plants once broken down. However there are some fruit scraps that can not go in the compost bin, such as citric foods like oranges and lemons.
But there is a variety of foods that can go in, like banana peel, apple cores, peaches, pears and more! If you are ever stuck on what foods you can put in compost just visit this website!
