Our Immigration team will focus on issues that promote justice and compassion for immigrants and refugees to the United States. This is in line with the welcome expressed by the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We will pay particular attention to the Trump Administration’s attempts to marginalize these immigrant/refugee communities. As we become aware of actions and educational materials in our roles working and volunteering with immigrants and refugees, the Immigration Team will communicate these to the entire IndivisibleNWIL group. We also look to the Political Action Team to identify Immigration issues/actions.
Members of the Immigration team commit to taking at least one action supporting the Indivisible goals every two weeks – either with Immigration, Climate/Environment, Education, or one of the other focus areas. This action may be a protest participation, meeting with or calling their Member of Congress staff, Town Hall meeting attendance, letter to the editor, solidarity meeting with other area progressives, etc.
Perseverance is important, as this effort opposing the Trump Agenda looks to be a marathon, and not a sprint.
Members of Congress are introducing a critically important flurry of legislation that will create a fair immigration process and protect children and parents. This critical legislation includes:
U.S. Citizenship Act
Dream & Promise Act in the House
Dream Act & SECURE Act in the Senate
Farm Workforce Modernization Act
Citizenship for Essential Workers Act
These bills collectively help support immigrant families and children. They will help provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, protect immigrant workers that have upheld our nation through the COVID-19 crisis, strengthen our economy, and offer stability to thousands of families who have built their lives in the U.S. These legislative pieces also help to eradicate racism within our own immigration system by adding protections for families and Black immigrants who are more likely to be detained and deported than other immigrants.
Members of Congress:
No matter where we come from, what our color is or how we worship, most of us work hard for our families. Immigrants are such a vital part of our essential workforce every day, as well as of our communities, and this has become especially apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Immigrants are putting their lives on the line to keep our health care system and our economy going, and are essential not only to our communities and families, but also to America’s recovery. Please co-sponsor and pass the U.S. Citizenship Act to protect children and families, as well as other critical immigration legislation such as the Dream Act, the Dream and Promise Act, the Citizenship for Essential Worker Act, and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act and the Secure Act.
Immigrants are essential to our country, communities and economy and Americans know this. Roughly 75 percent of Americans believe all immigrants should have a path to stay in the U.S. legally.
These bills would create a fair process that respects families, keeps children with their parents, and would ultimately build a fair and humane immigration system. Please ensure that this legislation is part of a comprehensive recovery plan for COVID and passed as soon as possible either as stand alone bills or as part of the next COVID relief package.
Al Otro Lado is committed to protecting the rights of migrant families. They are legally challenging the human rights violations brought about by the government's policies.

Blair, every day, ICE and Border Patrol targets Black immigrants, their families, and their communities.
Now more than ever, as ICE continues to deport hundreds of Black asylum seekers from Haiti, Cameroon, and several other African and Caribbean countries, during Black History Month no less, it's critical to build powerful coalitions of immigrants, refugees, and allies. That's why Daily Kos is supporting eight organizations that work to expand and defend fundamental freedoms and human rights, and build a strong, welcoming, and inclusive country.

Members of Congress are home on break! Make sure they see your support for a pathway to citizenship in the reconciliation package while they read their morning paper!
Dear Blair,
You did it! Your unwavering support for a pathway to citizenship for essential workers, DACA recipients and TPS holders has made it through to the next stage of the reconciliation process in Congress. During Wednesday’s early morning hours, after an all nighter, the U.S. Senate passed the budget resolution and kept a pathway to citizenship in the reconciliation package. We have momentum on our side! Now, the next steps will include the House voting on this measure.
It’s time to make our voices heard even louder to make sure this policy moves to a win -- and we have a powerful (and easy) way for you to do just that. Here goes: Before the House vote happens, everyone is taking a break and Congress is in recess. This is a vital time when members of Congress go back to their districts, read their local papers, and hear directly from people like you! Letters to the editor in local papers are some of the most impactful ways to get a representative’s attention while simultaneously engaging your community and neighbors as well!
*Writing a letter to the editor is easier than you think—and is an incredibly powerful way to make your voice heard by your community. When you click on the link above, we’ll lead you through a quick process to write a letter to the editor for your local newspaper. This tool is pretty magical—you can easily edit our pre-drafted letter and send it to your paper with just a few clicks.
This is a critical time to show support for immigrants in your community! The situation is dire for immigrant families that are in limbo following a July 16th Texas federal court ruling that leaves the future of the DACA program uncertain. Congress has the opportunity to end this uncertainty for not only DACA recipients but also essential workers and TPS holders by creating a path to citizenship in the reconciliation package.
More than 5 million immigrants have been helping keep us afloat throughout the pandemic. [1] Our survival through the last year and our continued recovery is due to immigrants like DACA recipients, essential workers, and TPS holders who work as doctors, nurses, grocery store clerks, teachers, sanitation workers, farmworkers, caregivers and so much more. Now is the time to take action and keep pushing for a pathway to citizenship.
We make it super easy for you by providing a sample letter, talking points, and even an automatic way to submit it. Click here to get started.
The clock is ticking for us to make sure this makes it into your local paper in time for when members of Congress return home to their districts. Letters to the editor are a powerful way to make sure leaders hear your voice.
The pre-drafted letter (which you can edit when you click through to the link) simply says:
We all hoped the worst of the pandemic was behind us, but the Delta variant is here, wreaking havoc, and once again Dreamers are heroically serving in essential roles here and all across the country. They are our doctors, nurses, home caregivers, teachers, and farmworkers. Immigrants are essential to our care infrastructure. They have not given up on us throughout the entire pandemic and we should not give up on them.
Congress must act now to create a path to citizenship for Dreamers and other essential workers, including farmworkers and TPS holders. There is an immediate opportunity for Congress to deliver this in the Build Back Better reconciliation package.
Supporting a pathway to citizenship is a no-brainer. If Congress creates a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, our country’s GDP could grow by $1.5 trillion and we would create 400,000 new jobs. No wonder a new poll shows that 70 percent of Americans support creating a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, and essential workers. It’s time for everyone in our community to speak up in support of our immigrant friends, families, co-workers, neighbors, and caregivers. [2]
Be sure to submit your letter to the editor now with just a few simple steps.
After you submit your own letter to the editor, please forward this email to friends. The more of us who send letters the bigger the impact will be.
Thank you so much for speaking out for immigrant essential workers & mixed status families!
