The Mesa community has a rich history of coming together to help support the city's most vulnerable. From serving students who need glasses or shoes to ensuring the homeless have a warm meal and bed, the heart of Mesa is in how community members serve one another.
The Move 1 Mesa initiative is dedicated to long time resident and community service champion, Gaye Kelley. There are few individuals who were as deeply involved and connected to serving others as Gaye was. She IS the exemplar of love and service. Gaye was a long standing board member and president of the Mesa Public Schools Foundation. Over the years Gaye was also involved with the Mesa United Way, Oakwood Creative Care, HoHoKam Foundation, AIA volleyball, AZ Brain Food, Mahnah Club, and Red Mountain Football Association.
Part of the Move 1 Mesa initiative is to begin focusing on the future, post-pandemic. But as we see light at the end of the tunnel, we cannot forget those we lost during this dark time period. Gaye passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Jim Kelley, her two children Matt Kelley (Melanie Kelley) Tracey Kelley-Rodarte and her five grandchildren.
The work Gaye started is not finished. To honor her, we encourage all Mesa residents to give back to their community. From volunteering to donating money, there are plenty of ways we can continue Gaye's legacy of loving and serving one another.
